A large collection of autograph letters mainly by 19th Century English, French, Italian and German statesmen, writers, artists, scholars, musicians and other public figures including Bulwer Lytton, Matthew Arnold, Joseph Hume, Thomas Dibdin, Caroline Norton, William Russell Cardinal Fesch (uncle of Napoleon) , Jules Claretie (dramatist) , Feuillet de Conches, William T.Dannat (painter) , Alexander Herzen, Ernst Tempel (astronomer) , Grazia Deledda (novelist) , Andrea Maffei, Charles de Beriot (a long letter referring to his wife, the singer Malibran, 'les succes de Maria a Sinigaglia ont été comme de coutume crescendo jusqu'à la fin et ont fini par devenir épouvantables....il y avait de quoi faire trembler les autorités'; a document signed by William II (Emperor of Germany, 1888-1918), approximately 20 letters in English, 16 in French, 18 in German, 225 in Italian, and a few other items (including some earlier), altogether approximately 300 items, various sizes.
