Autographs and Letters.- Puccini (Giacomo) Autograph Letter to Rose [Ader] signed "Giacomo", 2pp & envelope, in Italian, 4to, Milan, Midnight, 25th April 1921, "Today I received your letter written in German. I was very much grieved because I was unable to read it - however I went to a friend and had it translated for me - I cannot tell you the joy that I felt!", delighting in seeing her again in five months' time, asking her not to write to him in German when he moves to Torre del Lago as there is no one there to translate for him, declaring his love for her "If you know what a slave I am!... If you, since April 3, have a feeling of a new life, it is the same for me!", bemoaning his older age compared to her and signing off passionately "I kiss your blessed mouth so sweetly savoured - oh sweet Rosa, goodbye", horizontal fold, some creasing to extremities. ⁂ A fine, passionate letter from Puccini to Rose Ader, a young Austrian opera singer whom he had met in Rome when she was appearing as Mimi in La Bohéme. The composer and the singer had fallen deeply in love at first sight.
