The letter sheds light on the rather complex publication project: "Dear Mr. Chatto: Good - that settles Hughes!" [regarding William Hughes application to put out a French translation of Huck Finn] "Now you can settle Tauchnitz - I enclose him." [Tauchnitz was the German publisher, and Twain defers to Chatto to arrange the German publication of the book] "Chas. L. Webster (my nephew by marriage and future publisher) will write to you about this time. I will send him your present letter so that he may take note of the early sheets suggestion." [Chatto had requested early proof sheets so that he could begin typesetting and publish the British edition simultaneously with the American] "We can easily send the early sheets if we don't forget it, for we shall have this book in type and printed many months before we issue it." [he here lets Chatto know that Charles Webster is to publish the first American edition of Huckleberry Finn and that Webster would be writing to Chatto to take care of several matters including the early sheets suggestion.
