Beschreibung:

Title: Autograph Letter, signed, regarding this purchase of his country home, Houghton House Author: Rackham, Arthur Place: [London] Publisher: Date: January 27, 1920 Description: One page autograph letter, signed. 10x8", pale blue paper. The recipient's name unclear but clearly a friend or business associate involved in the Rackham's purchase of their country estate, Houghton House. At the time of writing the purchase seems uncertain "We are very glad to have your letter and to hear that the chances of Houghton House were not quite impossible...you might hint that we can hardly keep our offer open indefinitely...the sooner we know where we are, the better, as we keep on having opportunities of other more or less suitable houses...My wife and I build castles in the air of what we are going to do at Houghton...". The illustrator and his wife were ultimately successful in their bid for the home and resided there until 1929. Correspondence from the great illustrator is fairly scarce. Lot Amendments Condition: Creased from mailing, short splits at fold ends, small spot touching signature; very good. Item number: 258991
