Maurice Spillard was Assistant Commissary to the Convention Army in 1777 and in that year went to Quebec and served until September 1777 when he was taken prisoner and held until March 1780. He married while in prison, Miss Barrett, and American of New Town near Boston. This letter from Spillard is soliciting a favor from a friend who is also a publisher, asking him to publish his travel narrative, made from his journal while travelling from America to England. During his travels he was "Captured by French Privateers, who stripped me of every article of value I had about me except my journals." Includes a note of receipt, albeit in 1775, from the publisher. Lot Amendments Condition: Several tears at letter edges, including a few long ones at top edge, a bit yellowed and creased at edges; fragile, yet still very good. Item number: 223306
