Autograph letter signed 'Edward Elgar', Forli, Malvern, 10 April 1895, to Novello & Co., 'By this post (registered) I send you No. 6 of the set of six part-songs for Chorus and Orchestra completing the set Mr Tours kindly took charge of Nos. 1-5 which I left with him when I called at your establishment ten days ago. The collective title 'From the Bavarian Highlands' is intended to go on each number - there are subsidiary titles also... ', telling that his idea is that they should be published in book form and also procurable separately, suggesting that numbers 1, 3 and 6 would 'make a very useful suite for orchestra alone, or for piano duet or solo', saying that he submits the music with confidence and concluding with a PS that while the words are partially arranged from Volkslieder, 'the music is my own', 3 pages, publisher's acknowledgement note at head of first page and ink date receipt stamp to final blank, original pencil note at head of first page carelessly erased with some resultant creasing, pin holes to lower half of page, 8vo (1)
