Addressed only to “Dear Sir.” And writes: “I see an interview with Vardon in the Leeds Mercury…If you can set anything more out of Vardon than in these given I would be glad to have it…If you so tell Vardon that you are doing it for me…Yours very truly, Garden G. Smith ” Garden G. Smith (1860-1913) was editor of Golf Illustrated, the British weekly, for many years and an important contributor to the literature of the game. Also, authored various golf books, including The World of Golf (1898), Side Lights on Golf (1907), and with Harold Hilton edited The Royal & Ancient Game of Golf (1912) "one of the most magnificent books in the entire library of golf" - Joe Murdoch.
