An imagined portrait of the innocent heroine of Fanny Burney's classic novel Evelina, or the History of a Young Lady's entrance into the World, first published in 1778. Fanny Burney's brother, the artist Charles Burney is known to have made three illustrations of scenes from his sister's novel which were exhibited at the Royal Academy in the same year.
