A highly personal work since Ortelius himself drew the original maps and had them engraved by Jan Wierix. This atlas of ancient geography includes maps showing the historical geography of the biblical world, of Belgium, Germany, Italy, Greece, Egypt, Africa; it includes a reproduction of the Peutinger Map and representations of the journeys of Alexander the Great, Aeneas, the Argonauts and Odysseus; also with views of the Vale of Tempe (Thessaly), of the paradise of Daphne (Antioch), and of the Escorial (Spain).
