One 2pp letter dated Jan. 6, 1850, reads in part Mr. Price the Canal Engineer returned yesturday from the gould (sic) digging after an absence of two years, he and Mr. Tucker ? run against Mr. Morris 2 years ago last fall for congress they started then for the diggings. Price started with 9 hundred balance then 18 months in the mines and returned home with 7 hundred 2 years & 2 hundred for scaring the elephant & T the congressman died in the mines having made nothing.... A letter dated Oct. 23, 1849, Cincinnati, to Frank from H.M. Davis requesting Frank's help and reading in part I wold like for you to look around and se if you can se aplace that wold suit you to live in if you can find sutch aplace I wish you wold se if thare wold be agood opning for me to start busness. Another letter written to Cousin Frank talks of his lost trunk somewhere between Cincinnati and St. Louis and advises this young man to go to Minnesota Territory in the spring by steamboat for a better chance at a bright future. Another letter written by W.B. Foster to his brother advises him that he will be remaining in the printing business, rather than changing to a baker, mentions Carl Fuller is dead, he died in California..., continues with Jim when down to Cincinnati last week on a flat boat. We have not heard from him yet but expect him home this week. Two other letters are written to Frank E. Foster by R.W. Stearns in 1850 from Athens to Marys, Ohio. Talking of deaths from fever and small pox; the next letter deals with attempts to sell Frank's land in his former home. The next letter is from Frank's brother James to Frank and wife in typical vernacular speech: I have some thoughts of picking out a wife and will have to come back to old Athens Hills or take a Dutch gall of Lancaster. The last letter is a somewhat detailed account of salting hides from C. Carpenter to F.E. Condition: All with normal folds, VG.
