ASTESANUS DE AST (fl. first half of 14th century). Summa de casibus conscientiae. [Strassburg: Johann Mentelin, not after 1473]. 2 o (374 x 273 mm). 432 leaves (of 433; without [R]10 blank, last quire bound at beginning). 62 lines, double-column. Gothic type 5:92. 9-line opening illuminated initial "U," 8-line illuminated initial "D," with floral marginal extensions (cropped), other initials supplied alternately in red and blue, paragraph marks and foliation in red (some foliations cropped). (Some pale dampstaining mostly in upper margin, some pale browning to approximately 10 leaves, small marginal wormhole in last few leaves.) Early blind-ruled calf (rebacked, repairs to corners). Provenance : Windberg, Monastery (contemporary inscription on first leaf). A generally fine copy of the second edition. Rare: American Book Prices Current lists only three copies since 1975, of which only one other copy beside the present was complete in text.
