Text printed in red and black. Original white pigskin by W.H. Smith & Son, gilt-lettered on spine, uncut (a few minor stains, spine rubbed). Provenance : Sir Sydney Cockerell, 1867-1962 (presentation inscription from Charles Henry St. John Hornby). LIMITED EDITION, one of 260 copies on paper of a total edition of 280. PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY HORNBY TO SYDNEY COCKERELL on the front free endpaper: "To S.C. Cockerell from his friend the printer. C.H.S t J. Hornby. March, 1931." Longtime friends, it was Cockerell who suggested that Hornby develop his own type for books printed by his Ashendene Press. In 1901, with the assistance of Emery Walker Cockerell designed and cut the "Subiaco" type, which Hornby would use until 1927. Franklin 196. A FINE ASSOCIATION COPY.
