Artist: FRANZ VON STUCK (1863-1928) Size: 26 1/8 x 34 1/4 in./67.4 x 87 cm Condition: A. Printer: Wolf & Sohn, München Reference: Ref: DFP-III, 3213; Affichomainie, 151; Wember, 745, p. 80; Hiatt, p. 341; Plakate München, p. 53; Sachs 472, p. 47 (var); Takashimaya, III (var); PAI-LIII, 471 (var) Key Words: German; Art Exhibitions; Art Nouveau Kunstausstellung (Secession). 1905. Franz von Stuck was an integral member of the Munich Secession, and created several of their posters (see previous lot). This poster for their 1905 exhibition is a variation on the exhibition poster he designed in 1893, and it was used repeatedly by the group in years thereafter. A line drawing of the neoclassical building in which the exhibition was held is displayed at the bottom, while the profile of Athena, Goddess of Wisdom and Patroness of the Arts, reigns from above.
