Beschreibung:

ART DECO] Le Bon Ton d'après-guerre. Art-Modes-Frivolités . Paris: Dorbon-Aine, n.d. (1920-1922). Two volumes, original publisher's marbled boards with paste labels on the upper covers. 9 3/4 x 8 inches (25 x 20 cm); title leaf in each volume, followed by 100 colored plates on guards in the first volume and 100 (one double-page) in the second, for a total of 200 plates. Bindings worn, joints cracked but holding, internally clean. The plate count for this work is notoriously variable; this has the appropriate number of plates, as indicated by the title page. It appears that the volumes were made up with whatever surplus plates were on hand, and copies vary significantly copy to copy in what is included, which in this copy includes many fine examples of Barbier's work. The plates are mostly rendered in pochoir (i.e. hand-colored by stencil). These are gems from one of the greatest of high fashion journals, with contributions by Georges Barbier Charles Martin Pierre Brissaud Benito etc. C
