Condition: Four of five unmounted, scattered minor accretions and light silver mirroring. Provenance: From the collection of Percy MacKaye, by descent to the current owner Marion MacKaye Ober, Massachusetts. N.B. Although perhaps best known for his photographs of San Francisco's Chinatown, Genthe was a skilled portraitist, as these works demonstrate. He ran successful studios first in San Francisco and then in New York where his clientele included politicians, socialites, and literary figures.
