Folio. 4to. 6 etchings by Picasso, text printed in red and black, numerous vignette illustrations after Picasso in text. Publisher's pictorial boards, gray card chemise and slipcase. Slipcase with large chip on bottom panel, creases and some losses to glassine dust jacket, light toning.
Provenance: From the distinguished collection of Delmer and Mary Lou Daves.
LIMITED EDITION, SIGNED BY PICASSO IN PENCIL on the limitation page, number 840 of 1500 copies. Picasso's illustrations playfully and sensitively "... capture the braggadocio of both the men and women in the play, along with the pomposity and potent sexuality of the men and the recalcitrance and potent sexuality of the women" (Rutledge, The Guernica Bull, 2008). "The only American publication with original Picasso etchings, which are among his most important in the classical style" (The Artist and the Book 226). Cramer 57; LEC 52.
