Significant and widely read record of Arctic exploration, with an excellent series of steel-engravings of the frozen north. Described in the Arctic Bibliography as "Narrative of the Second Grinnell Expedition on the Advance, 1853-1855, Dr. Kane in command, under auspices of the U.S. Navy and various scientific institutions, to search for the Sir John Franklin Expedition, to explore, and to make scientific investigations and collections in the region north of Smith Sound."
