Arctic Blue Books Her Majesty's Stationery Office (publishers). [A collection of five blue books concerning various Franklin Search expeditions]. London: George Edward Eyre & William Spottiswoode, 1852-1855. 5 volumes, 2° (330 x 214mm. and smaller). Lithographic maps. Various bindings. A fine collection, comprising: 1. Arctic Expeditions. Report of the Committee appointed by the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to inquire into and report on the recent Arctic expeditions in search of Sir John Franklin together with the minutes of evidence taken before the committee, and papers connected with the subject. London: 1852. 2° (324 x 200mm). 2 folding lithographic maps. (Small tear to the first map, some marginal browning.) Old half morocco (rebacked). Provenance : Stefansson Collection (Dartmouth College library, bookplate). Arctic Bibliography 45227. 2. Additional Papers relative to the Arctic Expedition under the Orders of Captain Austin and Mr.William Penny . London: 1852. 2° (330 x 211mm). 15 lithographic maps and charts, 6 with routes or coastline coloured by hand, 6 folding. (Some small tears to blank margins, pp.139-141 and one map loosely inserted.) Original wrappers (rebacked, front inner hinge split). Arctic Bibliography 45228. 3. Arctic Expedition. Further correspondence and proceedings connected with the Arctic Expedition . London: 1852. 2° (320 x 205mm). 3 lithographic maps (1 printed in 2 colours, 1 folding and printed in colours). (Small tear to folding map.) Old limp roan (rebacked). Arctic Bibliography 45229. 4. Papers relative to the recent Arctic expeditions in search of Sir John Franklin and the crews of H.M.S."Erebus" and "Terror" . London: 1854. 2° (320 x 203mm). 5 folding lithographic maps, 1 hand-coloured, 2 printed in two-colours. (Tear to the upper outer corner of the final map). 20th-century brown half calf. Arctic Bibliography 45241. 5. Further Papers relative to the recent Arctic Expeditions in search of Sir John Franklin and the crews of H.M.S."Erebus" and "Terror" . London: 1855. 2° (325 x 205mm). 3 lithographic plates (1 tinted, 1 printed in colours), 27 lithographic plates and maps (18 folding, 20 coloured or tinted), numerous illustrations, some full-page. (6 folding maps with tears at inner margins, the final folding map shaved with slight loss, some browning.) Old half cloth. Provenance : G.W.Follansbee (bookplate, dated 1921).
