Woods from circa 1943. Woods was Chief of Mechanical Engineering on Howard Hughes Aircrafts during WWII, and worked on most projects there. Contains mostly hand-drawn schematics and discussion of two projects in particular: Integrated Communication Systems (ICS) for combat aircraft (presumably was top secret at one time), and a discussion on the uses of G. Potapenko's (Caltech) distance sensor, are included. About 25 handwritten pages and a few typed pages altogether, including the Organizational Chart of the Mechanical Engineering Department. Nothing found comparable for sale anywhere in the past five years. Also, Woods worked for Bell Labs prior to Hughes, and his hand-annotated January 1936 copy of Bell Labs Internal Telephone directory (wrapper-bound, New York), with his name signed twice, is included in this interesting archive. Lot Amendments Condition: Some creases and other light usage wear to the papers, minor wear to the directory; else very good overall. Item number: 154707
