Beautiful first edition beautifully illustrated. This work was the first significant attempt to apply chromolithography to an archaeological publication in Naples. In 1853 Fiorelli, in fact, went to Cuma, attracted by the archaeological excavations undertaken at that time by the Count of Syracuse in various locations in Campania. The archaeologist thus became part of the count's entourage, and began to deal successfully with excavations and discoveries. The Count of Syracuse, impressed by the skill of the archaeologist, entrusted Fiorelli with the management of all his excavations.
