EDITIO PRINCEPS, the first classical work printed in all three sizes of Garamond's grecs du roi type, one of a series of Greek texts printed by the Estiennes from manuscripts in the royal library. The Estienne Appianus is generally considered the best example of the use of the Royal Greek types. According to Updike, Printing Types , the volume is "one of the most exquisite books printed from these fonts". The elegant headpieces and initials are attributed to Geoffrey Tory.
