Antwerp, H. Verdussen, Part 1 (of 2), folio: [12]-516-[pp.; 3 tab. (pp. 163-missing, some quires age-toned, minor spotting, dampstain in bottom margin). Contemp. overl. vellum, gilt double frame on the boards, fleuron in the corners, central coat of arms, leather ties, gilt flat spine, a.e.g. (some stains, remains of ties, endpapers renewed). Nice specimen of a contemp. binding, probably a presentation copy with the arms of Archduke Albert of Austria (1559-as Governor of the Spanish Netherlands. Part 1 (neither title nor volume number on the back, only contemp. fleurons) of this extensive world chronology-cum-biographical dictionary by 2 Dutch humanists, dedicated to Albert and Isabella. With 3 genealogical tables (2 folding), and a frontispiece engraved by G. de Haen after P. de Jode, ill. in text with 2 sm. engraved portraits - P. Opmeer (1526-and his son Petrus the Younger who signs the dedication -, and over circular woodcut portraits of famous rulers, artists, writers, etc.: e.g. Adrianus VI, Hieronymus Bosch Christopher Columbus, Philippe de Comines, Leonardo da Vinci Faustus, Erasmus (2), Thomas Morus, Andreas Vesalius, Juan Luis Vives (2).
