The "Stratagems in war" is divided into 8 books: the first 6 contain accounts of the stratagems of the most celebrated Greek generals, the 7th contains stratagems of non Greeks and Romans, and the 8th those of the Romans and of illustrious women. Parts, however, of the 6th and 7th books are lost, so that of the stratagems which Polyaenus described, have survived. Woodcut mark on title; another one at the end.
