The Beatus initial, is based on the 'B ' from the opening words of Psalm one: 'Beatus vir qui non abiit in consilio impiorum' (Blessed is the man who has not walked in the counsel of the ungodly), and the Estote initial stands for: Estote fortes in bello' (Be strong in war).
