George Antheil (1900-1959) was an American composer who enjoyed a brief period of acclaim in Paris on the basis of his radical new music, especially the Ballet Mécanique, which stirred a stage-managed riot at its premiere in 1925. Pound evidently understood little about Antheil or music but used the composer to assert his own theories. Gallup A25a.
