An unusual French gilt-brass quarter-striking and repeating carriage clock achille brocot, no.227, retailed by hunt & roskell, london. last quarter 19th century The Gothic style case of gabled architectural form and with spire finials, with rope-twist border mounts, each panel engraved with a lattice design and with stars and beads, with engraved foliate spandrels to the feet, the side panels applied with quatrefoil mounts cast with rosettes and overlaid with shields, the gable centred by a trefoil mount cast with rosettes and with repeat button, with conforming mount to the reverse, the rear door with sliding catch and cut-out circlet to the inside for accommodating the gongs, the dial within a foliate scroll engraved stylised flowerhead frame, with engine-turned and silvered Roman chapter ring and centre cast in low relief with quatrefoils, blued poker hands, the twin barrel movement with silvered platform to the bimetallic balance with lever escapement, strike/repeat on two gongs to the backplate stamped for Achille Brocot and numbered 227 , with signature for HUNT & ROSKELL 156 NEW BOND STREET LONDON ; with original gabled brown leather travel case and associated key 9in. (23cm.) high
