An Ovchinnikov silver-gilt cloisonné enamel and seed-pearl embroidered traveling icon of the Virgin of Kazan P. Ovchinnikov with Imperial Warrant, Moscow, circa 1887 The icon of the Kazan Mother of God finely painted, overlaid with an oklad with seed-pearl embroidered veil and robes, the haloes, seed-pearl mounted crown, and frame enamelled in black, blue, green, turquoise, red and white, the sides of the frame with engraved French inscription: "Chère Dridrine, Que sette [sic] image vénérée t'accompagne dans ton voyage et qu'elle soit aussi ton guide dans les moments suprêmes de ta vie....Jamais adieu....Toujours au revoir....Ton bien triste Cherika. Petersbourg 12/30 Mars 1887." (Dear Dridrine, May this holy image accompany you on your journey, and may she also be your guide in the supreme moments of your life....Never farewell...Always until we meet again... Your very sad Cherika. Petersburg 12/30 March 1887); together with original fitted traveling case with stand. H: 4 1/8, W: 3 1/4 in. (icon); H: 5 3/4, W: 4 5/8 in.
