AN OFFICIAL SET OF PUBLIC RECORD OFFICE MICROFISCHE (145 x 105mm) of the ADM 171-series. Approximately 1,600 fische containing details of some 8,500 pages of medal and clasp rolls covering the awards to Naval and Marine personnel for the following campaigns: Naval General Service Medal 1793-1840; Army of India 'Ava'; China 1842; New Zealand 1845-47 & 1860-65; Baltic; Crimea; South Africa 1853; China 1857-60; India General Service 'Pegu', 'Persia', 'Perak' & 'Burma' 1885-87; Indian Mutiny 1857-58; Canada General Service; Abyssinia; Ashantee; South Africa 1877-79; Egypt 1882-88; Queen's Sudan; Khedive's Sudan 1896-99; East & West Africa; South Africa 1899- 1902; Africa General Service; The Naval Good Shooting & Transport Medal. Additional rolls cover the awards for service in the Polar regions 1815-55; 1875-76 and the majority of the clasps awarded during the 20th Century. Semi-official awards issued by Lloyds; the Board of Trade; and the Royal Humane Society are also included, as are rolls for the Indian Independence Medal, the Albert Medal, Imperial Service Medal, Jubilee and Coronations 1887-1911 and the Medal of the Royal Victorian Order. The series also contains a large section on foreign decorations and medals awarded to British Naval personnel for war and other services by the following countries: USA, Portugal, Norway, Netherlands, Belgium, Greece, Spain, Brazil, Italy, Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, Russia, Sweden, Poland, France and Denmark. A further section covers the following gallantry awards; Distinguished Service Medal; Military Medal; Distinguished Conduct Medal; Conspicuous Gallantry Medal; British Empire Medal, Meritorious Medal; etc. For the serious Naval historian and medal researcher who is unable to visit the PRO, this unique set of microfische provides a rare opportunity to acquire the majority of Naval medal rolls that are currently available at Kew. The microfische was purchased some years ago by the late Captain K.J. Douglas-Morris and extensively used by him in his Naval medal research and publications.
