AN ITALIAN POLYCHROME PAINTED KNEEHOLE DESK LATE 18TH CENTURY With a textile inset slide 74cm high, 90cm wide, 51.5cm deep Provenance: Bearing label to the inside the central drawer 'No t.54 in the Catalogue of C. H. St J. Hornby'. Charles Harold Hornby (1867-1946), was a founding partner of W.H.Smith and deputy vice-chairman of the NSPCC. In 1945, his collection was sold by Henry Duke & Son, Dorchester. Some of his collection of antiques is now in the Victoria & Albert Museum.
