An Italian Deruta gold lustred maiolica high-footed bowl: decorated in blue and gold lustre with the monogram 'IHS' within a sunburst, possibly representing the badge of St.Bernadino, the rim with a band of stylised foliage within arched borders, the exterior with a diaper flowerhead design and a further sun-ray band to the underside, circa 1520-40, 24cm diameter, 15cm high [minor glaze wear to rim, restored section to rim and foot].*Notes Literature Julia E.Poole 'Italian maiolica and incised slipware in the Fitzwilliam Museum Cambridge' pages 169/70 no.240/1.*Notes See Sotheby's 7th October 1992 'Early English and Continental Pottery from the John Philip Kassebaum Collection' lot 167 [no.89] for a similarly decorated dish.
