AN IMPORTANT SILVER INLAID BRASS CYLINDRICAL CASKET MOSUL, EARLY 13TH CENTURY Of cylindrical form with separate lid with angled edge, the surface intricately engraved and decorated in silver inlay, the body with a central band of elongated naskh interruped by three large arabesque roundels reserved against silver ground, small key-fret roundels above and below every calligraphic band, the ground decorated with dense scrolling vine, the lid with a band of stylised kufic around the lip, the angled edge with a scrolling vine, the top with a series of similar arabesque roundels around a further key-fret roundel on a similar ground of scrolling vine, body slightly reduced, lid with holes for hinge, very minor losses to inlay 3½in. (8.9cm.) high
