AN IMPORTANT SAXON GOLD AND HARDSTONE SNUFF-BOX BY JOHANN-CHRISTIAN NEUBER (1736-1808), DRESDEN, CIRCA 1770 circular box, the cover, sides and base inlaid with carnelian ribbons interlaced with bloodstone laurel leaves and lapis lazuli flowerheads on a banded grey-brown agate ground, the cover centred with a circular medallion of polished and engraved gold inlaid with a black onyx figure of a chimney sweep holding a ladder in one hand and a broom in the other, chased gold mounts 1 5/8 in. (40 mm.) diam.
