AN IMPORTANT PAIR OF EARLY MING LARGE SANCAI -GLAZED STONEWARE FIGURES OF BODHISATTVA EARLY MING DYNASTY, 1ST HALF OF 15TH CENTURY Each modelled seated in lalitasana on lotus pedestals, each petal moulded with a figure of Buddha, the pendent feet each resting on a lotus pod, the seats resting on the backs of crouching lions, the deities wearing loose-fitting robes tied with festooned beaded necklaces with further strands at the lower hems, with regal facial features with eyes half-closed in contemplation above full lips, their hair swept up and fixed in a top-knot with twisted tresses, one holding a scroll, representing Manjusri, the other Guanyin holding a peach, all brightly glazed in ivory, yellow, green, aubergine, black and turquoise (firing cracks retouched, minor extremity chips restored) 47 1/4 in.
