An important Napoleon III carved marble sculptural facade* By Auguste-Nicolas-Cain, Dated 1865 Comprising six large trophy panels, each with moulded surround (not illustrated) and of arched shape with canted lower corners, profusely carved with oak and laurel branches and with weapons and attributes of hunting, individually representing the capture of bear, fox, stag, boar, game birds and wild fowl, each incorporating a shield bearing the Orléans coat-of-arms, all inscribed A. CAIN , one dated 1865 ; together with six tapering cylindrical columns with capitals carved with lion masks and fruit swags, six pilasters, with similarly carved capitals, and two corner pilasters The trophies: 81in. (205.7cm.) high; 43¾in. and 40in. (111cm. and 101.6cm.) wide, excluding moulded surround The columns and pilasters: 125in. (317.5cm.) high
