Place: London Publisher: Lawrence & Bullen Date: 1893 Description: viii, 303 pp. Frontispiece and two inserted color plates. (8vo) 19x14 cm (7½x5½") period full blue morocco with elaborate and bold gilt blocked and stippled blossom pattern on both covers, gilt-ruled dentelles, all edges gilt with gauffered design on each edge, Prideaux's gilt stamped signature on rear dentelle, "*S T P * 1895*". First Edition. A gorgeous early Prideaux binding. According to a letter from Prideaux, copy of which is included: "This is one of these designs made for my book on binding. I consider it the best formal design I have made- on account of its being both simple and effective. A combination always tried for and not too often achieved." Illustrated with two full page color plates. With the bookplate of Phyllis Goodhart Gordan, famed Renaissance scholar and book collector. A wonderful binding by one of the greatest women bookbinder's of the modern era. Lot Amendments Condition: Spine sunned, else fine. Item number: 274713
