An Extremely Rare Pair of Michelin Employee's Lapel badges, c1908 - 10 period
An Extremely Rare Pair of Michelin Employee's Lapel badges, c1908 - 10 period A scarce matching pair of factory employee enamel badges, featuring Monsieur Bibendum in his very earliest guise (as he originally featured on his debut 1898 advertising poster); it shows him offering a toast to his inferior competitors with a glass full of road hazards; it was in 1908 that this cigar smoking company mascot was given the name Bibendum and these badges were produced for customer facing staff members. Two different types were produced, one featuring a medallion-type loop to the reverse side, whilst the other featured the more conventional stick pin design. Both types are offered here, presented in very good original condition, save for one minute touch-up to one example. (2)
