Beschreibung:

AN EXQUISITE BELLE EPOQUE RUBY, DIAMOND AND PEARL SAUTOIR The front designed as two elongated pendants composed of graduated bell-shaped motifs, each set with single and old European-cut diamonds and ruby collets, joined by graduated pearls, suspended from a rose and old European-cut diamond and square-cut ruby fancy link longchain, gathered by a marquise and square-cut ruby and single-cut diamond geometric motif, mounted in platinum and gold (may be worn as a shorter necklace and a chain), circa 1910--43 ins. long Numbered 926 At the turn of the century, low cut bodice dresses afforded ample space for a lady to wear the fashionable sautoir around her neck. Designed as a long neck chain with pendant elements, they were worn doubled or tripled around the neck, tucked in the skirt or belt, or pinned to the corsage ornament which allowed it to hang in festoon fashion. The illustrated sautoir, dating to 1910, bridges two eras, the Belle Epoque and the approaching Art Deco. The long platinum chain is composed of oval links, set with five diamonds in a millegrain mounting, alternating with ruby and diamond elements. A diamond and ruby geometric surmount supports two drops of decreasingly sized bell-shaped motifs hanging at unequal lengths, resembling neglige-style pendants.
