An early 19th century Chinese export silver teapot stand, Canton circa 1810 marked by C China trade period. Of oval form, with stepped cavetto edge and reeded rim, raised on four splay feet. Marked underneath with pseudo marks; lion passant, crowned leopards head, ‘C’, and a duty mark. Length – 18.7 cm / 7.3 inches Weight – 209 grams / 6.72 ozt This mark is found upon a range of holloware as well as a fiddle pattern table spoon, a date range of 1830-50 is given in Forbes, Crosby, H.A., Devereux Kernan, J.,& Wilkins, R.S., Chinese Export Silver 1785 to 1885, (1975, 2000), Museum of the American China Trade, p. 243, fig.245. However in Devereux Kernan, J.,The Chait Collection of Chinese Export Silver, (1985), New York, Ralph, M. Chait Galleries, p. 18, this is updated to from 1810 and the design of this teapot stand supports this. These marks are noted as being rare. for a marrow scoop with these exact marks and the addition of SS for Sun Shing please see the preceeding lot.
