AN ATTIC BLACK-FIGURED NECK-AMPHORA CIRCA 510-500 B.C. One side with three gods, Apollo in the center facing right, clad in a long chiton and himation, playing a kithera, his long hair tied in a krobylos , Dionysos standing before him, clad in a chiton and himation, a wreath of ivy in his hair, holding a grape vine in his left hand, and a kantharos in his right, Hermes to the left, clad in a chiton, himation, boots and a petasos, holding his kerykeion in his left hand; the other side with two horsemen moving to the right, each wearing a Thracian cloak, the first with a petasos, each holding the reigns in his left hand, two spears in his right, two dogs below; a band of lotus bud chain encircling below, rays above the foot, alternating red and black tongues on the shoulders, lotus palmette chain on the neck, lotus bud and palmette complexes below the triple-reeded handles, details in added white and red, graffiti on the underside of the foot 15 3/8 in. (38.1 cm.) high
