An Armorial Plate, decorated to the center with the arms of Hodges and the motto Utilis ab ortu within the border of three elaborate floral sprays, 1745, Qianlong period (1736-1795), diameter c. 23 cm; wear NOTES: This is the arms of Hodges of Gloucester and Dorset and one of four services made for the Hodges family, two with this arms. It seems most likely this service was the earlier of two made for Thomas Hodges of the East India Company.
