An archive of items relating to Misha and Sam Black, comprising: a Festival of Britain press pass, a Pleasure Gardens, Battersea, guide, 1951, Building Research Congress, International Optical Congress and British Electrical Congress, 1958 enamelled, name badges, other ephemera including postcards and pamphlets from the Brussels Expo 1958 and photographs and books relating to the brothers (qty.) Provenance: Consigned by Patricia Black, Sam's daughter. Sir Misha Black OBE (1910-1977) and, Professor Sam Black MBE (1915-1999) The brothers, Misha and Sam Black, were both pioneers in Britain's post-war design culture: Misha in industrial design and Sam in public relations. Misha and his associates set up the Design Research Unit (DRU), in 1943, a multi-disciplinary design consultancy, and later he was one of the instigators of the Festival of Britain. Sam was head of Public Relations at the Association of Optical Practitioners (AOP) between 1948 and 1955, and was a founder, member of the Institute of Public Relations from 1948. Both were heavily involved with the Brussels Expo 1958: Sam organised the British exhibitors as head of public relations at the British Electrical & Allied Manufacturers' Association, whilst, the pavilion was designed by Misha and the DRU. Items relating to this period are included within the sale. The brothers' contribution to the successful development of post-war 'brand Britain' was immense and they were both active educators in, their respective fields.
