The 36 inch octagonal barrel with eight groove rifling in .36 caliber. Breech signed JB. Lock indistinctly signed ----bach/Lebanon. Brass fore-end cap, ramrod thimbles, triggerguard and buttplate of simple form. Silver counterplate with simple punched border. Unusual silver patchbox decorated with rocker-engraved borders and stars and repeating designs, the lobed finial surmounted by an arrow. Fore-end with eighteen rocker-engraved inlays including a fore-end plate below a single large heart, ten small lozenge-shaped plaques alternating with six large fish-form plaques. Buttstock inlaid with fourteen silver plaques and three mother-of-pearl roundels; inlays include an oval wrist escutcheon, hearts on either side of the wrist, a crescent with eaglehead over the cheekpiece, a stag and a spouting whale behind the cheekpiece, a fish at the rear of the comb, an owl-headed crescent above the patchbox and with lozenge-shaped plaques of various sizes. Condition: Good. Barrel and lock with dark patina showing areas of pitting. Cock missing. Furniture and inlays with dark age patina, one small inlay missing from cheekpiece. Stock with considerable slivered losses along fore-end and with a piece missing at toe of buttstock but otherwise fairly sound and clean.
