An American Art Nouveau silver coloured and clear glass 'Athenic' vase by Gorham Manufacturing Co., stamped marks, no. D847, date code for 1901, slender baluster with an everted quartrelobed rim and cut with flowers, the long leaves overlapping, the base engraved and pierced with plant forms, 25.5cm (10in) high 1891 William Codman, a London silversmith, went to the United States at the request of the director of Gorham, Edward Holbrook. There Codman established a workshop devoted to exculsively hand made silver in the Art Nouveau style sold under the name Athenic: the forms inspired by Greek models. Condition report disclaimer
