Title: An Account of Col. Crockett's Tour to the North and Down East, in the Year of Our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Thirty-Four. Author: Crockett, [David], Col. Place: Philadelphia Publisher: E.L. Carey and A. Hart Date: 1835 Description: 234 pp. Frontisportrait engraved by S. S. Osgood after a painting by T. B. Welch. (Small 8vo) 6¾x4¼, later 3/4 dark green morocco over marbled boards, spine lettered & decorated in gilt, marbled endpapers. Bound without the 34 pp publisher's catalog. First Edition. Davy Crockett (1786-1836), failed soldier and scout, failed businessman, found his true calling in politics, where his outsized personality and flair for publicity were properly appreciated and rewarded. A year after publication of this book Crockett was bayoneted to death at the Alamo. Howes C896; Sabin 17565. Lot Amendments Condition: Extremities rubbed; occasional light foxing; else very good.
