* An 18 Karat Gold, Diamond and Multi Color Sapphire Leaf Brooch, in a stylized starfish motif, the rose gold star containing numerous pave set round mixed cut yellow, orange and orange red sapphires weighing approximately 7.80 carats total accented with white gold wirework containing numerous round brilliant cut diamonds weighing approximately 2.40 carats total. 12.90 dwts. Estimate $ 1,000-2,000 Property from the Estate of Gerard L. Cafesjian, Naples, Florida Sapphire Characteristics (graded in setting) It is the opinion of the gemologist that the sapphires in this brooch have internal characteristics that are consistent with those observed in natural sapphires that have been color enhanced through heat treatment; a portion or the entirety of the orange, yellow and orange-pink sapphires may have undergone high-temperature treatment including the diffusion of beryllium to enhance color.
