Fascicules I-VII, 8° (255 x 175mm). 114 PLATES AFTER BLANCHE AMES (25 heliotype, the rest etched), and an etched folding map of the East India Islands, with detail of the Philippines. Fascicules I and II backed with green cloth over blue paper-covered boards, lettering labels on spine and front cover; fascicules III-VII backed with dark brown cloth over brown paper-covered boards, titled in gilt on spine and front cover, mostly unopened and uncut. Nissen BBI 23 (mistakenly requiring 144 plates); Stafleu & Cowan 112. Provenance : AUTHOR'S PRESENTATION COPY TO A FELLOW ORCHIDOLOGIST (each volume inscribed to F. Holmboe and dated 1945), ACCOMPANIED BY AN AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED from Ames to Holmboe, dated 15 March 1949, arranging a visit to Ames's house and commenting on the scarcity of Florida orchids in flower in March -- Oakes AMES and Charles SCHWEINFURTH. Schedulae Orchidianae . Boston, Massachusetts: Earnshaw Press and Lawrence Press, 1922-30. 10 volumes and index volume, 8° (217 x 140mm). 24 etched plates, numerous text illustrations, some full-page, all after Blanche Ames (Volume 3 in facsimile, some spotting, mainly to earlier volumes.) Original paper wrappers (stained and faded, index volume without wrapper). -- Oakes AMES. Orchids in Retrospect. A Collection of Essays on the Orchidaceae . Cambridge, Massachusetts, 1948. 8° (268 x 174mm). Preface signed by the editor, Paul C. Mangelsdorf, numerous illusrations in the text, many full-page, mostly after Blanche Ames Original red paper wrappers (spine faded, edges slightly frayed). Provenance :AUTHOR'S COPY, signed by Ames and dated 1949, with loosely inserted autograph manuscript list of five orchid books. -- And three other works by Oakes Ames, one on Florida orchids illustrated by Blanche Ames one on the Genus Epidendrum, and an autobiographical collection of Ames's writings.
