Beschreibung:

19" blade length. 27.5" length overall with scabbard. Ames M1832 Artillery Short sword with what appears to be a reproduction wood scabbard that is antiqued. Spear tip sword has a double edged blade with double and single fullers to both sides. Features a brass hilt with scaled pattern grip and patriotic eagle reliefs to both sides of pommel. Cross guard has a William Anderson Thornton "W.A.T." mark, as well as a "J.H." inspector mark to obverse side of cross guard. The "J.H." mark is non specific and could be attributed to several inspectors with the same initials. Ricasso is marked "U.S./1844" and "{Patriotic Eagle}/N.P. AMES/SPRINGFIELD" to obverse side ricasso. Condition: Fair to good. Blade has some mottled discoloration overall, and brass hilt has darkening to corner areas, scratching and dings overall. Scabbard appears to be carved wood painted to resemble leather wrapping on original scabbards.
