Allard, [1691-Engr., 50,5 x cm, hand-coloured (minor tears with a bit of paper loss at "Cumberlands Eil.", central folding partially split). Framed (not studied outside frame). Allard's rare map of the Americas with Terra Esonis, the mythical land bridge here connecting the Straits of Anian with Japan. California is depicted as an island and there is a small inset map of New Zealand. Nice cartouche engraved by Willem van der Gouwen after Philip Tideman. The map was published in Allard's "Magnum theatrum belli", published in at the moment when Allard's affairs were in decline due to the competition with French workshops. Ref.
