Autograph letter in black ink to recto of one sheet of wove paper, with usual creases and address to verso in Waterhouse's hand, remnants of red sealing wax present, evenly toned and with a few nicks to extremities. Benjamin Waterhouse (1754-1846) was an American physician and professor at Harvard Medical School, noted as the first doctor to perform tests of the smallpox vaccine. In this letter, he addresses Henry Alexander Scammell Dearborn (1783-1851), an American lawyer and statesman who served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1831-1833, elected by the state of Massachusetts on his Anti-Jacksonian platform.
