Oblong 2° (266 x 365mm). 7 hand-coloured aquatint plates. Leaf of adverts sewn-in. (Light marginal soiling.) Uncut in original printed grey wrappers with letterpress title on upper cover (re-stitched); later buckram portfolio titled in gilt. Provenance : J. Mott (contemporary signature on wrapper) -- Fitz Eugene Dixon (bookplate on portfolio; his sale, Anderson Galleries, New York, 6 January 1937, lot 7) -- Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester (1900-1974; his sale, Christie's London, 26-27 January 2006, lot 608). THE DIXON-GLOUCESTER COPY OF THE FIRST ISSUE IN ORIGINAL WRAPPERS. 'A well drawn and finely coloured set of plates representing shooting accidents, not easily met with in perfect state' (Schwerdt). The plates each bear the publisher's imprint and date 1 February, 1816. HIGHLY RARE. Dixon 7; Mellon/Snelgrove 45; Schwerdt I, p.23 (without the wrappers); Siltzer p.57; Tooley 53.
